What do I need to do? Each student will be required to read one book per month, or three (3) books of their level and choice over the summer.
Where do I Find the Books? To find the books to read, a Student could re-read a favorite book from their collection. We ask that at least one book is new. Another option is purchasing books from your favorite book store, resale shop or online dealer. There is a good used book store in Winthrop Harbor. You could check out books from your local public library. The ones that serve this district are Warren Newport Public Library, Waukegan Public Library and Zion Benton Public Library. Once you have an Illinois library card, you can use it at any library in Illinois. You could also come to Summer Camp--Bridge the Gap, where we will have open library, games, crafts, puzzles and activities for the entire family. We have two more this summer: Tuesday, June 11 or Tuesday, August 1. Both of these would be held at Beach Park Middle School in the lower level from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Snacks will be for sale.
What will I be graded on? in Language Arts class, you will share the three books that you read with other students. from your choice of Three, you will narrow it to one book and create a book Talk to be shared with the class, convincing the other students that they should read the book. The best book talks will be invited to be video recorded and added to the library website.
